AML/PEP | Anti Money Laundering / Politically Exposed Persons |
Our services in respect of Anti Money Laundering (AML) compliance range from the identification of Politically Exposed Persons (PEP) and reputational risk assessment of doing business with PEPs to audits assessing compliance with AML / KYC best practices (such as FATF, Wolfsberg Principles and UK JMLSG guidance). Our extensive network of human assets, and access to numerous international and local databases, allow for swift identification of PEPs and a thorough and effective assessment of the potential reputational risks involved in a business relationship with such individuals, A typical audit will review the existing KYC / AML procedures implemented by a client (or a potential business partner) with a view to assessing their compliance with relevant national and international core requirements. It includes both off-site and on-site components, from which a formal written report of findings and recommendations is produced. Financial Action Task ForceThe Financial Action Task Force on Money Laundering (FATF) is an inter-governmental body founded in 1989 by the G7 to develop and promote national and international policies to combat money laundering and terrorist financing. The FATF has issued a list of 40 Recommendations that provide a complete set of counter-measures against money laundering covering the criminal justice system and law enforcement, the financial system and its regulation, and international co-operation. These recommendations have been recognised, endorsed, or adopted by many international bodies. Specific measures to assist financial institutions and non-financial businesses and professions in preventing money laundering and terrorist financing include recommendations concerning customer due diligence and record-keeping, and the reporting of suspicious transactions.
