John Muller Presents to Rotarians

Listening to today’s speech was both interesting andImage
somewhat of coincidence. Thursday evening I was at
an event organized by one of our members during
which the speaker asked us to write down one thing we
wanted and three things we did not want. On the later list,
number one thing that I would not want to happen was, “to
become recognizably famous”. Famous would be fine, much
like Sue Grafton, Clive Cussler, or Steven King, would be
great. Make lots of money, write books, but be able to get
lost in the crowd.
John Muller, today’s speaker though, helps people increase
their level of personal comfort and safety wherever they
might be.

John works with two groups of people. The first, surprisingly make up most of his clients and include those  people who work in an industry, business or accounting,  that has suddenly proven to be threatening, for which I feel  great sympathy. The second group, with whom he mentioned  that he works with less frequently, includes people  who either through their efforts to star in a particular  industry they should know will make them visible, for which  I do not have much sympathy.

When looking at his industry, I think John has the better  side of the deal. Like most of us, he can go home, change,  go out and do whatever he wants, without the Gray Squad  following him around. Imagine all the things we take for  granted, suddenly curtailed. No more supporting our  favorite Friday afternoon charities; no more attending week  night gatherings at local scenic sight locations… I could go  on… but if John has  become part of your paid  entourage, all this and  much more is gone.  While I could write  about explosive devices  and proximity checks,  choke points and other  vocabulary introduced  during John’s very  interesting talk, I cannot  help but think what it  must be like to need a  body guard, to know that someone wants to kill you…  While body guarding has been around since the days  they were referred to as arrow catchers, (human pin  cushions) it is a sad comment on our world today that  accountants, bank managers, and politicians need to hire  body guards.

However, as with many of our club’s speakers, if you do  need help, perhaps from an angry ex-husband of the  young student you are sponsoring, now you know who  to contact, John Muller… but be forewarned, the  interview process and its requirements will entail a great  deal more than what you might be willing to share…  even in one of our latest, classic classification interviews…
