ImageWHAT IS THE ISPS CODE:

The code is a comprehensive security regime for international shipping, adopted by the 108 member nations to the International Maritime Organization (IMO).  It contains detailed security-related requirements for Governments, port authorities and shipping companies in a mandatory section (Part A), together with a series of guidelines about how to meet these requirements in a second, non-mandatory section (Part B). WHY SHOULD GOVERNMENTS/BUSINESSES PARTICIPATE:

Non-participation will result in:

  • Potential denial to enter territorial waters of participating governments
  • Increased vessel boarding and inspections prior to unloading of goods
  • Increased Customs inspections of cargo
  • LOSS OF BUSINESS
